Faculty position in biophotonics

The Photonics Research Group (http://www.photonics.intec.ugent.be) at Ghent University has a vacancy for a faculty position in the field “Nanophotonic integrated circuits for biophotonic applications”. This vacancy is created in the context of the newly founded Center for Nano- and Biophotonics (NB Photonics), a multidisciplinary research framework involving 15 professors from four faculties at Ghent University (http://www.nb-photonics.ugent.be)

The vacant position can be filled either at the level of tenured professor or at the level of tenure track assistant professor, depending on the seniority of the selected candidate.

All information with respect to the vacancy can be found at: http://www.ugent.be/en/news/vacancies/autonomous/20100708-bof01-A21E

Further information can also be obtained from prof. Roel Baets (email: roel.baets@ugent.be ; telephone: +32 9 264 3329).

The deadline for application is April 29, 2011.

Round Robin Experiment

Raman spectroscopy has already proved its effectiveness in many cases for medical diagnostics such as for cancer, cardiovascular diseases and infections. However, there are no standards in the different working groups, e.g. for sample preparation, implementation of the Raman experiments, spectra pre-treatment, data evaluation, etc.In a round robin experiment, the required groundwork will take place in order to define standardised Raman measurement methods, which will be fundamental for establishing Raman spectroscopy for clinical diagnostic procedures.
